The XL versions of our popular BareKnuckle and DoubleDown bedrolls are exactly the same as our large size bedrolls, just 5″ wider and with 2 inflation/deflation valves. The same great Therm-a-Rest Basecamp self-inflating mattresses as all of our bedrolls use, just wider.  These will be our biggest,  most comfortable bedrolls we sell.

We’ve taken both bedrolls to the next level, in addition to the new thicker lie area fabric, the BareKnuckle and the DoubleDown now full zip side by side, the Drizzle Covers now zip together under a generous flap.

We need couples to give bedrolls reasonably vigorous field testing.

We’re not concerned about how much you love snuggling under the stars with your sweetie, we’re most interested in seams and stresspoints where the bedrolls connect and their resistance to abuse.

We need to quickly mature the product, in 2010 we don’t have the luxury of spending 2 years testing as Patrick did the first prototypes.

Our experience is there are no better, motivated, knowledgeable, communicative group of testers than people who lay down their hard cash to do it. An we appreciate each and every one.

For batches of 100 or more of the Armed Forces version of the Original Oregon Bedroll, allow a bit over 60 days for them to be manufactured at the prison in Pendleton Oregon.

We have a partner with a GSA registration to sell batches of bedrolls to the government, but we do not have a NSN number for individual products as of yet, but we’re working on it.

Our Armed Forces version of the Original Oregon Bedroll we offer currently is an Original Oregon Bedroll with the marine canvas substituted with SuperPolyDuck, a great waterproof material that’s tougher and more abuse resistant than the marine canvas we use on our ‘civilian’ Original Oregon Bedrolls. Other than that, and the new D-rings,  it’s the same product 100%.

Another feature added to the Armed Forces version of the Original Oregon Bedrolls are two more D-rings on webbing with a guitar strap button. This guitar strap button lets each soldier shop and purchase a unique guitar strap to use as a shoulder strap, which individualizes each bedroll to ease identification.

The guitar strap button was added just for the Armed Forced version, but we’ll be adding it to all Original Oregon Bedrolls in the future, it’s too cool of a feature to ignore.

These pillows do not inflate, but they crush to a smaller size and stuff into themselves reasonably small 12″ x 6″. Comes in a deep red soft face side and grey on the back, a very nice size quality comfy pillow from Therm-a-Rest.

Designated Decoy is a group of motorcyclists with attention getting bikes, who agree to not drink or do drugs while on their motorcycle wearing the Designated Decoy license plate frame.

It is a voluntary group, with no enforcement other than the member’s words.

The name Designated Decoy is from an old bar hopping joke. A police officer is waiting outside a bar at closing time watching a dozen motorcycles in the parking lot. the bar closes and the bikers stream outside, followed by one last biker staggering out and falling. While the other bikes start up and ride off, the last rider is struggling to get on his bike and get it started. After about 10 minutes he get’s it started and pulls on the the street where the officer immediately pulls him over.

“Have you been drinking sir?” the officer asks.

“No, not a drop” the biker says clear as a bell. The cop snaps back “I saw you stagger out of the bar, obviously intoxicated.”

“Oh that” the biker replies “Tonight I’m the  designated decoy.”

So goes the old joke that inspired the name of our group: Designated Decoys

We will be offering a low cost lifetime membership and nice license plate frame at cost to members. To be clear it will not technically not-for-profit, but the price will be at cost, and no profit will be generated.

We only want members who are sincere, and absolutely agree to not drink or do drugs while bar hopping on the bike wearing the plate.

We are particularily interested in new members who currently do bar hop and drink, guys with multiple bikes who can designate a bar hopper bike, and do the sober thing bar hopping on that bike.

The Pack-Lite Bedroll is exactly the same as our BareKnuckle Bedroll, just based on the smaller sized Therm-a-rest self-inflating mattress.

The Pack-Lite Bedroll was designed for smaller folks and as an ideal ‘Plan B’ bedroll that doesn’t take much room but impresses with it’s comfort. It smaller and lighter than all of our other bedrolls, weighing in under 5 lbs it’s a good fit for many.

The Pack-Lite measures 21″ wide and 6′ tall, big enough for large guys for an occasional night, and a full time bedroll for trim people 5′ 9″ and shorter.

The BareKnuckle Bedroll by Oregon Bedroll is a no-frill straightforward bedroll with just what you need. A Therm-a-Rest self-inflating mattress and a sewn-on Ultrex waterproof breathable Drizzle Cover. No tent required. If you are rudely woken by morning drizzle, flip the generous flap over your head and hide.

The BareKnuckle Bedroll is a shell, if you are in Hawaii in the summer, it’s all you need. If you are in Alaska then put the best sleeping bag you can afford inside and roll the whole mess up together.

Available in tan or black urethane coated SuperPolyDuck. Bikers like black, but bedrolls have always been tan, you decide. Large size, the best size for big bikes are shown in the photos below.

This is a closeup of our Test Drive Station so that you can see how extreme of a test bed it actually is.

We have been doing some testing here in the home office to check out the Ridge rest mattress we

are offering our Hoka Hey racer friends. Our initial results are surprising.  On our test bed,

which as you can see is lumpier than anything a normal person would select to put down their

bedroll, the Ridge Rest did not come close to the comfort of the self-inflating Basecamp we

usually use. The self-inflating Basecamp is just amazing how it soaks up the lumps, and the

Ridge Rest mat was about what you’d expect from a 1/2″ mat laying on boulders, not comfy.

Of course, racers won’t be using it on river rock, we’re trying it on more real-world coditions.

We spent some time lying around on 2 bedrolls trying to replicate locally the range of surfaces the Hoka Hey guys are going to dropping the bedrolls on. Our test drive station is not reasonable, it’s just too lumpy for a fair comparison.

Based on today’s testing, if you have a relatively flat smooth gravel patch to put it down, the Ridge Rest isn’t bad, worth considering. But as it get lumpier, the more you need the self-inflating mattress. To what degree is up to each rider to decide.   1/28/2010

3/4/2010 Here’s the deal for you Hoka Hey Racers, the special priced 2 mattress package. Each rider would have to try both mattresses and decide for himself. You try both mattresses and decide. If you can stand the Ridge Rest for the race, then use the other self-inflating mattress for more leisurely rides. If you can’t make the RidgeRest mat work for you, then donate it to a local homeless charity. If you do the math you’ll notice we’re including the 2nd mat free. You can look at it as free racer’s swag.
