<p style="text-align: center;">This is a closeup of our Test Drive Station so that you can see how extreme of a test bed it actually is.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">We have been doing some testing here in the home office to check out the Ridge rest mattress we</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">are offering our Hoka Hey racer friends. Our initial results are surprising.  On our test bed,</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">which as you can see is lumpier than anything a normal person would select to put down their</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">bedroll, the Ridge Rest did not come close to the comfort of the self-inflating Basecamp we</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">usually use. The self-inflating Basecamp is just amazing how it soaks up the lumps, and the</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">Ridge Rest mat was about what you&#8217;d expect from a 1/2&#8243; mat laying on boulders, not comfy.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">Of course, racers won&#8217;t be using it on river rock, we&#8217;re trying it on more real-world coditions.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">Check back Hoka Hey racers, we&#8217;ll keep you posted as we do more testing.     1/27/2010</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.oregonbedroll.com/wp-content/uploads/ridgerestrocks.JPG"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-2418" title="ridgerestrocks" src="http://www.oregonbedroll.com/wp-content/uploads/ridgerestrocks.JPG" alt="ridgerestrocks" width="549" height="234" /></a><a href="http://www.oregonbedroll.com/wp-content/uploads/basecamprocks.JPG"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-2419" title="basecamprocks" src="http://www.oregonbedroll.com/wp-content/uploads/basecamprocks.JPG" alt="basecamprocks" width="549" height="255" /></a>On top you see Therm-a-Rest&#8217;s Ridge Rest non-inflating mat, and below you will see</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">Therm-a-Rest&#8217;s new redesigned 2&#8243; Bascamp mattress we use. It&#8217;s really not a fair comparison.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a title="Hoka Hey Challenge" href="http://hokaheychallenge.com/index.html">&lt;&lt; &lt;&lt; Hoka Hey Challenge office site click here &gt;&gt; &gt;&gt;</a></p>
<p><a rel="lightbox" href="http://www.oregonbedroll.com/wp-content/uploads/hokaheyrolledup.jpg"><img class="size-full wp-image-2416" title="bedroll rolled up" src="http://www.oregonbedroll.com/wp-content/uploads/hokaheyrolledup.jpg" alt="hokaheyrolledup" width="550" /></a></p>
<p>We spent some time lying around on 2 bedrolls trying to replicate locally the range of surfaces the Hoka Hey guys are going to dropping the bedrolls on. Our test drive station is not reasonable, it&#8217;s just too lumpy for a fair comparison.</p>
<p>Based on today&#8217;s testing, if you have a relatively flat smooth gravel patch to put it down, the Ridge Rest isn&#8217;t bad, worth considering. But as it get lumpier, the more you need the self-inflating mattress. To what degree is up to each rider to decide.   1/28/2010</p>
<p>3/4/2010 Here&#8217;s the deal for you Hoka Hey Racers, the special priced 2 mattress package. Each rider would have to try both mattresses and decide for himself. Just for registered Hoka Hey Challenge racers our special includes an Original Oregon Bedroll, our new upgraded Zip-On Drizzle Cover, a Therm-a-Rest self-inflating Basecamp air mattress AND a Therm-a-Rest RidegeRest non-inflating mat.</p>
<p>You try both mattresses and decide. If you can stand the Ridge Rest for the race, then use the other self-inflating mattress for more leisurely rides. If you can&#8217;t make the RidgeRest mat work for you, then donate it to a local homeless charity. If you do the math you&#8217;ll notice we&#8217;re including the 2nd mat free. You can look at it as free racer&#8217;s swag.</p>
<p>100% refund to second place finisher, or a new Oregon Bedroll in the off case he doesn&#8217;t have one yet. That&#8217;s right, a refund or new bedroll for second place.</p>
<p>100% refund for third place finisher if he has purchased an Oregon Bedroll.</p>
<p>Nothing for first place. That guy just got a big paycheck and probably already has an Original Oregon Bedroll, he&#8217;s fine.   <img src='http://www.oregonbedroll.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' />      3/4/2010</p>
<p>Please note this is a Pre-Order special, bedrolls are currently out of stock. Bedrolls will ship with expedited handling and special attention, but are not expected to ship until about April 15.</p>

<div id="subhead3" style="text-align: left;">Freedom to wander</div>
<p style="text-align: left;">Packing a bedroll on your scoot gives you freedom to roam.<br />
No reservations? No problem.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">If there is a chance you’ll be sleeping on the ground tonight,<br />

<p style="text-align: left;">For those guys on solo saddle scoots, a bedroll strapped on the rear fender makes an excellent 2nd seat for an unexpected passenger.</p>
<div id="subhead3" style="text-align: left;">Built-in bag</div>
<p style="text-align: left;"><a rel="lightbox" href="http://www.oregonbedroll.com/wp-content/uploads/bagspill4.png"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-993" title="Original Oregon Bedroll with 2&quot; self-inflating air mattress $234" src="http://www.oregonbedroll.com/wp-content/uploads/bagspill4.png" alt="Original Oregon Bedroll with 2&quot; self-inflating air mattress $234" width="550" height="289" /></a></p>

<p style="text-align: center;">Starting your trip with nothing in the spacious bedroll bag leaves room for the inevitable T-shirts and other items we always seem to acquire on bike trips.<br />
The combination pillow/bag is an exceptionally well padded protective vault<br />
for your fragile electronics or other indispensable gear.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a rel="lightbox" href="http://www.oregonbedroll.com/wp-content/uploads/tag2.png"></a><a rel="lightbox" href="http://www.oregonbedroll.com/wp-content/uploads/tag3.png"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-2170" title="tag" src="http://www.oregonbedroll.com/wp-content/uploads/tag3.png" alt="tag" width="550" height="493" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: center;">Each Oregon Bedroll has it&#8217;s own unique serial number.</p>

<p style="text-align: center;">Simply unroll it, open the valve and let the mattress &#8216;wick-up&#8217; air for about 20 minutes,<br />
add a couple of breaths and you&#8217;re done.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">To get the best inflation performance from your Oregon Bedroll, requires you to break the mattress in,<br />
and if possible store it layed out with the valve open. More on that in <a href="http://www.oregonbedroll.com/index.php/use-care/">Use and Care</a> on this site.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a rel="lightbox" href="http://www.oregonbedroll.com/wp-content/uploads/logopatch.png"><img class="size-full wp-image-1180 aligncenter" title="logopatch" src="http://www.oregonbedroll.com/wp-content/uploads/logopatch.png" alt="Oregon Bedroll logo patch." width="400" height="279" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: center;">The high quality standards of the Original Oregon Bedroll are evident in the leatherwork.</p>
<div id="subhead3" style="text-align: left;">New 2&#8243; Therm-a-Rest</div>
<p style="text-align: left;">The new Therm-a-Rest(tm) Basecamp model is here! The new version of our favorite</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Basecamp Therm-a-Rest now rolls up thinner!</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">We&#8217;ve got it all now, the comfort of 2&#8243; and the smaller diameter a motorcycle bedroll</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">deserves.  All Original Oregon Bedrolls now ship with the new Bascamp mattress.</p>

Ride Destination: Newport Oregon, the beach!

Best roads: Not a bad road to ride within 50 miles.
The Coast Hwy 101 can have too many grandpas driving Winnebagos, still a beautiful slow ride with lots of good ocean views.
If you’ve got the time a nice way to get to Newport from CA or WA.

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: 1in;"><span style="font-family: Arial;">The Coast Hwy 101 can have too many grandpas driving Winnebagos, still a beautiful slow ride with lots of good ocean views. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: 1in;"><span style="font-family: Arial;">If you’ve got the time a nice way to get to Newport from CA or WA.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: 1in;"><span style="font-family: Arial;">Hwy 20, 126 and 18 are all excellent, have less cars than 101, but still more than we like.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-left: 1in;"><span style="font-family: Arial;">Hwy 34, 36 and 229, plus the short Hwy 180 are special Oregon treats, very little traffic, nice pavement, curvy and very scenic. </span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Arial;">Plus the beach, fly a kite or something. <span> </span>John The Boss is at 3539 SW Hwy 101 also.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Arial;">Watch for:<span> </span>Cops and deer. Both come out at night, the cops especially on Fri. and Sat nights in Newport, DUII’s are their favorite now. Like the cops, the deer usually come out in pairs. <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Arial;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Arial;">Camping:<span> </span>The Oregon Coast is famous for it’s beautiful campgrounds. You usually need reservations during summer, but a guy with a bedroll can always find a place to crash.</span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;">For riders that go places I believe packing the best bedroll possible on a motorcycle can do more for a motorcyclist’s overall riding experience than the sum of all parts and modifications applied to the machine. It can and will change how people ride and bring them closer to the spirit and true freedom that a motorcycle can bring.<span> </span>A bedroll gives you freedom.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;">I hate to say it, but a big advantage to our products over other bedding types is an Oregon Bedroll doesn&#8217;t look embarrassing on your bike. That was an important design criteria. Beyond vanity, it makes it more likely you will have it on the bike when you need it, and luck favors the prepared. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;">I normally stay in hotels and I found It extended my daily riding distance, I don’t have to grab a room early to make sure I get one. Just like carrying a small 1 gallon gas can in your saddlebag while riding through Mexico, pushing your luck a bit with gas stops, I can push my luck with hotel availability when I’m packing a bedroll. Short mid-day naps on the bedroll rests my neck and back and also contributes to more miles per day.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;">A bedroll can have many uses beyond the obvious:</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;">It serves as a ‘passenger’ seat on solo saddle bikes.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;">It can carry precious cargo in the very padded small interior pocket inside the bag/pillow. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;">The exterior D-rings allow you to strap your jacket on a hot day onto the bedroll without struggling for elusive bungee points.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;">More likely to ride more and farther knowing you are not at the mercy of hotel rooms 100%.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;">With an ice pack beverages stay cold for hours.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;">Skip 3 or 4 hotels rooms and it pays for itself, skip more, save more.<br />
</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;">Makes it easier for us polite guys to ask to crash at somebody’s place.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;">A bike trip vacation can be a cheap vacation.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;">In a serious emergency a bedroll could wrap broken arms or legs, bandages could be extracted from the fabric, the straps could make slings and tourniquets as well as It could work a drag stretcher a distance from assistance.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;">Drinking and riding alternative.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;">Impulsive and spontaneous bike trips become possible.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;">If you just dropped $350 on an ultimate motorcycle bedroll, wouldn’t that make you ride more?</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;">If you ride distances, packing a bedroll opens your options. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial; color: black;">Bedroll + Bike = Freedom<br />

<p><!--[endif]--> Having a bedroll on your bike allows you to design different rides than most. Pick a direction and ride. No hotel reservations, no set in stone itinerary, just a destination. Yes, I prefer motels to camping, but having a bedroll means I can take a chance on their being a motel where I need it. Worse case? I can find a place to crash.</p>
<p>The Original Oregon Bedroll was born on a great solo ride in 2007, 35 days into Mexico from Oregon,  and I don’t speak Spanish.</p>
<p>I was not packing a sleeping bag nor camping stuff, I like hotels. I found myself wishing I had some kind of bedroll as a back up plan.</p>
<div id="attachment_1335" class="wp-caption alignnone" style="width: 560px"><a rel="lightbox" href="http://www.oregonbedroll.com/wp-content/uploads/mexicopjquad.jpg"><img class="size-full wp-image-1335" title="mexicopjquad" src="http://www.oregonbedroll.com/wp-content/uploads/mexicopjquad.jpg" alt="mexicopjquad" width="550" height="110" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">I spent hours during my ride thinking about what would the ultimate super bedroll be like? How good could a bedroll be if price was no object?</p></div>
<p style="text-align: center;">
<p>My ride was coming to a close, I missed home and had re-entered the US headed north back to the barn in Oregon.</p>
<p>Vegas seemed like a good overnight spot, it would take 12 or 14 hours to get there, but hey, Vegas is worth it. I finally hit Vegas at about 10 p.m. sore and tired, rolled into the first bar I found downtown.</p>
<p>After several hotel inquires, it became evident that the Nation Rodeo finals were in town, and there wasn’t an available hotel room in a 60 mile perimeter around Vegas. That night as I rode farther and farther North in the icy cold trying to find a room,  the super bedroll idea seemed better and better.</p>
<p>It took several thousand man hours dealing with the patent, branding, prototyping, testing, more testing, sourcing vendors (17 vendors, really), manufacturing, more prototypes (there were 7), marketing, and web design, and a full year later than planned we proudly present the results here on <a href="../">www.OregonBedroll.com</a>.</p>
